A flush-fitting anchoring system
Challenge
Sunseeker International approached
Bowmaster at an International yacht show
about their new flagship model, the 155
Supersport. The 53m motoryacht required a
completely flush fitting anchoring system.
The owner had a clear list of requirements:
1. A clean hull with a sleek bow
2. Safety and anchoring ability could not be
compromised
3. The system had to be class compliant from the outset.
Solution
Bowmaster recommended a Manson Hiding Anchor and flush fitting Pocket System.
Once the style of anchor and concept proposed by Bowmaster was agreed, the Bowmaster engineers set about designing the system.
Working in conjunction with Sunseeker’s design staff, a design evolved until both parties were happy with both the aesthetic form and function of the system.
Splashes were taken of the hull by Sunseeker staff and then shipped to New Zealand for use in construction, ensuring the millimeter accurate flanges matched the manufactured hull perfectly.
Spilings were also sent to corroborate the existing splashes and both teams worked together on conformity. Construction jigs were then fabricated and Bowmaster set about making the product.
During fabrication, Bowmaster’s team of fabricators placed a huge amount of importance on distortion prevention, ensuring that the final product was fair.
When most of the hot work was complete, Bowmaster’s 3D scanning technology was used to create an exact “as built” of the pockets and scratch plates. This was then sent back to Sunseeker to present up to the hull for matching.
A few tweaks were executed on the product and it was signed off for accuracy whilst still in the factory. The goods were all shipped to site and installed quickly, with minimal interruption to build time.
