Challenge
When Whangarei-based, Diverse Projects, began the extensive refit of a 56m Damen Sea Axe vessel, Advantage, they discovered they needed a second anchor system due to the class of the vessel.
The second system needed to be positioned on the stern of the vessel and height restrictions were going to prevent them from using a traditional submarine anchor system.
Solution
The timing of this refit was fortuitous for the Diverse Project team. Bowmaster had recently been in discussions with European customers facing the same challenge and were working on the designs of a Plough Anchor underwater anchoring system.
Bowmaster’s engineers discussed the system concept with Diverse to see if it would be suitable for Advantage.
It was ideal and the vessel was lengthened with a new transom platform designed and built to house the stern anchor. The newly patented anchor system deploys the anchor through the hull of a vessel. The anchor is housed in a stainless steel unit with a carriage system for deployment.
The bow anchor solution was a large stainless-steel plough anchor and a simple deployment system. This system included a stainless-steel mount and roller made by the Bowmaster team.
Advantage, is now being used as a superyacht support vessel.
