Challenge
Manson Anchors, sister company of Bowmaster, were approached by Alloy Yachts just months after successful completion of the S/Y Kokomo project, regarding a new build, S/Y Vertigo.
S/Y Vertigo was of a similar deign to the previous Alloy Yacht Kokomo, but it was significantly bigger. At a grand length of 69m/220ft, sleek and undisturbed lines were very important to the aesthetics of this yacht. The challenge was allowing
sufficient space in the slim bow for a submarine system. With the learnings from the recently completed S/Y Kokomo project still on everyone’s minds, the Alloy Yachts team were keen to evolve the anchoring solution further to complement
the design.
Solution
The Manson Anchor team recommended the Manson Hiding Anchor for the project. This anchor had been designed especially S/Y Kokomo.
The anchor was designed as a flush fitting pocket anchor with a polished closing plate.
The inward tapered flukes enable the base plate to be wider than the fluke tips which allows for the flush fitting format. This anchor was designed to be deployed via a wetbox from the base of the hull for a clean look.
The Manson Hiding Anchor is Lloyd’s Register Approved as High Holding Power (HHP) up to 4300kg.
This anchor has been used multiple times by the world’s leading shipyards; Royal Huisman, Baltic Yachts and Vitters Shipyard in conjunction with the Bowmaster submarine deployment systems.
S/Y Vertigo went on to win many international superyacht awards after launch:
International Superyacht Society Awards 2012- Best Sailing Yacht over 40m
Monaco Yacht Show 2012- Prix du Design Award
World Superyacht Awards- Sailing Yacht of the Year 2012
