Challenge
When award-winning boat builder Yachting Developments were tasked with building a boat that didn’t have a regular bow configuration, they went straight to trusted partners Bowmaster for a solution.
After working with the customer to get an in-depth understanding of what they did and didn’t want, it was confirmed the bow of the world’s largest full-carbon sportsfisher needed to be a show piece – a custom piece of “operational jewellery”.
Solution
It was agreed that dual 450lb stainless steel Manson Plough Anchors would be the best anchor solution. Class-approved windlasses and ground tackle were also confirmed, allowing Bowmaster to begin the design phase of the project.
With a project such as this one, design and innovation were at the forefront of each and every major decision. One important specification in the design of the deployment system was that it was a crew friendly and a functional piece of equipment.
Once the designs of the system had been agreed upon by all parties, the next task was to take the visual direction and make it functional.
The trough style approach created a robust and easily serviceable deployment mechanism. This included a winch mount, compressor mount and anchor deployment neatly arranged into one show piece unit. Being a truly bespoke item, there were a few challenges along the way.
However, through regular client communication and the collaborative approach that Bowmaster goes about its work – any problems were able to be discussed and solved efficiently and effectively.
The system was stressed and tested at Bowmaster’s purpose-built facility to confirm its reliability in all conditions.
The result was a beautifully polished, 6m custom showpiece representing style, functionality and craftsmanship.
